Product Information System

Product Information System

Product Information System

Product data was fragmented across multiple off-the-shelf systems. A master product information system was created in-house to our own requirements. I joined the squad, working closely with the master data team, ensuring a well designed interface and the ability for users to carry out key tasks efficiently. All done in-line with a design system to keep it consistent with all enterprise systems.

👥 Users

‣ Office staff, such as merchandisers, responsible for maintaining product information.

‣ Master data squad

🎯 Goals

‣ Build a centralised, user-friendly product information system.

‣ Cut admin time and reduce data management costs.

‣ Improve consistency and accuracy of product data.

🔍 Research & Collaboration

‣ Weekly sessions with the product manager, dev team, and data team.

‣ Regular feedback sessions with merchandisers to understand workflows.

‣ Identified key pain points: redundant systems, slow updates, and inconsistent data.

✏️ Design & Validation

‣ Designed wireframes and end-to-end user journeys.

‣ Collaboratively refined screens based on ongoing feedback.

‣ Validated designs with merchandisers to ensure usability and fit.

🚀 Results

‣ £40K/month saved by eliminating third-party tools.

‣ 50% faster product updates, saving merchandisers on average 8 hours per week.

‣ Improved data accuracy and consistency across teams.

✅ Impact

The bespoke PIM system replaced a patchwork of tools with a single, efficient solution - demonstrating how user-centered design can drive both operational efficiency and cost savings.
